The Golden Twins and the fire extend in Limassol
The Golden Twins stands for ‘Investing in Industrial Innovation’ and is a Public Private Partnership co-funding programme run by GEOSYSTEMS HELLAS S.A as coordinator in collaboration with FMRS AUTh, NTUA, NKUA and Emtech, under the ESA Φ-lab InCubed ESA programme.
The result for the recent fire in Limassol, Cyprus, is a product coming from the GTFire module: GTFire is an advanced monitoring module of fire events using real-time satellite and predictive data models.
The Limassol fire area polygon was designed as an extend polygon of 240 sq km from Laboratory of Forest Management and Remote Sensing of Aristotle University (FMRS AUTh) and GEOSYSTEMS HELLAS (GSH) satellite acquisition team proceeded for a new tasking of a Worldview Legion Ortho-ready Bundle product at 30cm, in collaboration with the partner GEOSERVE NL.
The successful tasking on 27th of July 2025 had a successful imagery product delivery on the 28th of July 2025 early in the morning, so the FMRS AUTh GT team and GSH team in collaboration with ERATOSHTENES CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE (EcoE) proceeded with the interpretation using the GTfire product.
The fire area is 104 sq km based on the very high resolution imagery product at 30cm using the GTFire module.
