MAGINET

MAGINet (Geospatial Information Networking Techniques for Maritime Awareness Services) is an ESA ARTES project led by LuxSpace with Geosystems Hellas and the University of Luxembourg (SnT). It develops a multi-source maritime awareness platform that fuses AIS, Earth Observation (optical & SAR), and Radio Frequency data with AI/ML analytics to detect, track, and identify vessels—including those operating without AIS (“dark vessels”). The system is modular, cloud-based, and designed to improve maritime safety, security, and surveillance through advanced data fusion and decision support tools.

Within MAGINet, Geosystems Hellas (GSH) provides specialized expertise in EO and SAR data, taking the lead in designing and implementing ship detection workflows, and developing customized detection and data fusion algorithms. These components are integrated into the Geospatial Information Networking (GSIN) platform, strengthening its analytical capabilities. GSH also leads the definition of the technical solution baseline, ensuring compliance with system requirements and validating the selection of EO/SAR data sources and methods. In addition, GSH contributes to validation and performance testing, ensuring the robustness and operational relevance of the MAGINet demonstrator.
