ARTEMIS

The ARTEMIS project develops a multi-parameter service that integrates satellite and complementary data into an online platform for monitoring the health, quality, and sustainable management of economic forests, with a focus on Mediterranean chestnut forests in Thessaly, Greece. In the Municipality of Mouzaki, chestnut forests have faced significant degradation due to biotic threats (insects, diseases) and broader socioeconomic pressures, including the abandonment of traditional cultivation and rural depopulation.

ARTEMIS will design algorithms and monitoring practices to certify forest health and enable continuous observation, supporting early detection of threats, sustainable production, and biodiversity preservation. By providing actionable insights, the project aims to revitalize chestnut cultivation, enhance primary production, and promote the socioeconomic resilience of mountain communities.

The Artemis Project is finished
