Geosystems Hellas coordinates the new ESA project “The Golden Twins”

On Friday, September 20, the Golden Twins project officially kicked off through a virtual meeting. During this meeting, Geosystems Hellas (GSH) as Coordinator and sub-contractors Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH), National Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) and EMTECH Space S.A. introduced themselves and discussed their roles within the initiative. The session also provided an opportunity for GSH and sub-contractors to outline the project’s initial six-month plan and present the next steps for achieving the project’s goals. This kickoff marks the beginning of a collaborative effort among two SMEs and three university institutions, working together under the INCUBED funding of the European Space Agency (ESA) to address key environmental and monitoring challenges.

The Golden Twins project is focused on addressing critical global issues through the use of satellite imagery and advanced software applications, by proposing three services tailored for different stakeholders. Specifically, it aims to enhance fire monitoring, including the detection of fire outbreaks, assessing fire risks, tracking fire progression, and mapping affected areas after a fire event. Additionally, it focuses on monitoring extreme precipitation events, such as coastal and inland floods, and detecting the subsequent infrastructure damage. Finally, the project addresses maritime surveillance by monitoring illegal vessel activities, tracking incidents and accidents at sea, and analyzing general ship traffic patterns.
