LUCAS
The LUCAS 2025 project aims to produce an updated, harmonized, and high-quality dataset on land use and land cover across all EU Member States, supporting evidence-based policies in agriculture, environment, and territorial planning. By combining manual photointerpretation of very high-resolution satellite imagery with machine learning techniques for automated classification, the project enhances both the accuracy and efficiency of data production. Through the development of an innovative graphical user interface (GUI), advanced AI models, and new grid-based statistical products, LUCAS 2025 modernizes Europe’s land monitoring framework while ensuring full compliance with Eurostat’s quality standards and continuity with previous survey editions.
Geosystems Hellas (GSH) contributes to the LUCAS 2025 project by leading photointerpretation and EO data processing, ensuring accurate classification of land cover using very high-resolution satellite imagery. GSH also supports the development of machine learning algorithms for automated classification and contributes to the design and testing of the project’s graphical user interface (GUI), enhancing efficiency and data quality across the survey.
