HELLENIC SPACE DAWN

Supporting Greece’s Satellite Data Capacity

Greece’s First Twin CubeSat Constellation for Earth Observation

The Hellenic Space Dawn project aims to design, develop, launch and operate Greece’s first twin CubeSat constellation for Earth Observation. The constellation includes two CubeSats, Selene and Helios. This mission marks an important step towards Greece’s national autonomy in satellite technologies and Earth Observation applications.Through the Hellenic Space Dawn mission, Greece strengthens its ability to produce, process and use satellite data.

The mission will support important applications, including:

  • cartography
  • agriculture
  • forestry
  • land-use monitoring
  • vessel detection
  • image compression

The project also demonstrates advanced on-board data processing capabilities, helping transform satellite data into useful information for public and private sector users.

Building a Strong Greek Space Ecosystem

Hellenic Space Dawn brings together Greek SMEs, universities and research institutions under the coordination of the European Space Agency (ESA).

The project supports the development of a sustainable domestic space ecosystem. It also aims to position the Hellenic Space Dawn constellation as a Copernicus Contributing Mission, providing freely accessible Earth Observation imagery in support of Europe’s digital and green transitions.

GEOSYSTEMS HELLAS Role in Hellenic Space Dawn

GEOSYSTEMS HELLAS S.A. (GSH) leads the development and operation of the Payload Data Ground Segment (PDGS) for the Hellenic Space Dawn mission.

Through this role, GSH supports:

  • satellite tasking
  • data processing
  • generation of Earth Observation products
  • definition of technical specifications for the Selene and Helios CubeSats
  • transformation of raw satellite data into actionable geospatial information

This contribution strengthens Greece’s capacity for independent satellite operations and Earth Observation data exploitation.

The Hellenic Space Dawn project is ongoing.

The project has received funding from the European Space Agency (ESA)
