NAVISTAR
Navistar is an ESA-funded project under the NAVISP programme, exploring current trends in Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving with a focus on GNSS and emerging Positioning, Navigation & Timing (PNT) technologies.
The project assesses the European ADAS ecosystem, identifies key gaps in existing PNT solutions, and outlines potential next steps within NAVISP. In parallel, it establishes a solid baseline for the global AD/ADAS market by mapping commercially available functions, their reliance on PNT, and the main players across Europe.
Its scope spans passenger and heavy vehicles (trucks, buses, construction machinery), as well as automation domains beyond conventional automotive. Particular attention is given to how Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs), sensor fusion, and timing are integrated into AD/ADAS applications, supporting improved safety, efficiency, and user experience, while also considering safety and compliance needs, especially for fleets, public transport, and Mobility as a Service (MaaS) solutions.
Geosystems Hellas operates as a subcontractor in collaboration with KENOTOM and the National Technical University of Athens.
The NAVISTAR Project is ongoing
The project is financing from European Space Agency (ESA).
