SAT4GAIA

The SAT4GAIA project concluded its initial preoperational phase in June 2026, using Earth Observation data, advanced remote sensing technologies and geospatial intelligence to strengthen Greece’s national land monitoring capabilities and support evidence-based decision-making.
SAT4GAIA – Axis 3 is the Land Monitoring Service of Greece’s National Microsatellite Programme, funded by the European Union through the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF) under the Greece 2.0 National Plan and managed by the European Space Agency (ESA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Digital Governance and the Hellenic Space Center.
The project developed an integrated geospatial service designed to transform satellite and third-party data, including Copernicus data, into reliable and actionable information. The Land Monitoring Service includes three main modules:
Land Use / Land Cover Mapping
Deformation Monitoring
Urban Analytics
These services were designed for integration into the Greek Governmental Space Hub, contributing to the development of Greece’s national geospatial data infrastructure and supporting environmental monitoring, sustainable land management, urban planning, climate resilience and informed public-sector decision-making.
GEOSYSTEMS HELLAS S.A. served as Prime Contractor and project coordinator, leading the overall implementation of SAT4GAIA and contributing to the integration of the Land Use/Land Cover, Deformation Monitoring and Urban Analytics services into the Governmental Space Hub.
Key Project Outcome
The 3 services of the SAT4GAIA project are already in operational phase in the Greek Governmental Space Hub.
