SEN4RUS

The SEN4RUS project aims to enhance urban planning and sustainable regional development in Russia by leveraging Earth Observation (EO) data from the Copernicus Sentinel satellites. Its primary goal is to develop and demonstrate EO-based indicators—such as land cover, urban expansion, and environmental quality—that support evidence-based decision-making for city authorities and planners. Through the creation of a Web-based Information System (WIS), SEN4RUS enables users to access, visualize, and apply satellite-derived information directly within urban planning workflows. By integrating EO data with local planning needs and fostering collaboration between European and Russian experts, the project seeks to promote the operational use of Copernicus services and strengthen the role of EO in sustainable urban management.

Geosystems Hellas (GSH) contributed to the SEN4RUS project by developing EO-based urban indicators from Copernicus Sentinel data and integrating them into the project’s Web-based Information System (WIS). GSH also supported stakeholder engagement and capacity-building activities, promoting the effective use of Earth Observation services for sustainable urban planning.

The SEN4RUS Project is finished

The SEN4RUS project was funded under the ERA.Net RUS Plus programme, supporting EU–Russia collaboration in applying Copernicus Earth Observation data for urban planning and sustainable development.
